Your call is answered by an independent local service provider, or a scheduling line working for one, who can tell you about availability and pricing. Calling is free and you are under no obligation to book.

Quick checks before the service call

Check the thermostat

Make sure it is set to heat or cool, the temperature is set correctly and the batteries are fresh.

Check the breaker and switch

Furnaces have a power switch that looks like a light switch. Make sure it is on and the breaker has not tripped.

Replace the filter

A clogged filter is one of the most common reasons a system runs poorly or shuts off.

Repair or replace?

If the system is over 15 years old and needs a big repair, ask for a quote on both. Newer systems can cost much less to run.

Ask about pricing up front

Ask about diagnostic fees and whether they can give a written quote before any work starts.
