Water where it shouldn't be? Get a crew on the phone now.
Burst pipe, flooded basement, leaking water heater or roof leak: the first few hours matter most. Answer three quick questions, then call to reach a local water damage team.
Call a water damage team (phone line opens soon)Your call is answered by an independent local service provider, or a scheduling line working for one, who can tell you about availability and pricing. Calling is free and you are under no obligation to book.
What to do in the first hour
Stop the water if you can
Find the main shut-off valve (often near the water heater, in the basement or by the street) and turn it clockwise. For an appliance, close the valve behind it.
Stay safe around electricity
If water is near outlets, cords or the panel, do not walk through it. Switch off power to that area only if you can reach the breaker from a dry spot.
Take photos before cleanup
Photograph the water, the damage and the source. Your insurer will want them, and they help a restoration team quote the job.
Call your insurance company
Many homeowner policies cover sudden water damage like a burst pipe. They usually do not cover slow leaks or flooding from outside, so ask what applies.
Drying fast prevents mold
Mold can start within 24 to 48 hours. Professional teams use pumps, fans and dehumidifiers and check moisture inside walls and floors.
